Sally  Jercha,  Candidate  for  Kansas  House  District 28

Sally grew up in a fifth-generation Kansan family, completing her higher education degrees outside the state and then bringing her family home to Kansas to raise her children in the world-class Blue Valley School District.  After a successful career in refining, she devoted her time and energy to service – at church, in schools, and in the broader community.

Strong  Foundation  and  Career

Sally earned her degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Southern California as a Trustee Scholar and upon graduation was honored as the USC School of Engineering Valedictorian.  She completed her business education with an MBA at UCLA while working full-time as the second female (and youngest) Process Engineering Supervisor at the ExxonMobil Torrance Refinery.  Here in Kansas City, Sally developed new business for Burns & McDonnell in the Oil, Gas & Chemicals Division.

Blue  Valley  SchoolS  Champion

Sally just completed a two-year term as PTO President at Prairie Star Middle School and assisted the school district in a four year term on the Curriculum & Instruction Committee. She has also provided parent perspective on the Blue Valley Middle School Study Committee, in addition to numerous volunteer roles for school events and initiatives over the years.  Currently, she serves on the BVSD Fall 2020 Reopening Task Force.

Community  First

Sally is proud to have founded the Leawood Lion’s Club BSA Troop 6010 as Scoutmaster – the largest BSA troop of young women in the Kansas City Metro.  She also organizes the Prairie Star Elementary PTO Cub Scout Pack 3472 as Committee Chair and directed the Soaring Eagle District Cub Scout Day Camp for two years.  In addition to these Scout-related positions, Sally served for two years as a Johnson County Master Food Volunteer through the K-State Extension Program and volunteered for two years as an Historical Interpreter at Shawnee Town 1929.

Faith  in  Action

Sally is a twelve-year member of the Saint Michael the Archangel Catholic parish and a seven-year Religious Education Catechist at the Church.  She also served for two years as Vacation Bible School director and volunteered for five years as a guide for the program.  At the same time, Sally led the Mothers of Young Children (MOYC) Bible Study for three years.  In addition to her work at Saint Michael’s, Sally previously served five years as a Steering Team member and Discussion Group Leader for the Lord of Life Mothers of Preschoolers (MOPs) organization.  Her family regularly volunteers at Saint Mary’s Food Kitchen in Kansas City, Kansas, serving nutritious meals to those in need.

Family

Sally and Anthony, a senior mechanical engineer at Burns & McDonnell in Kansas City, live in Leawood and have been married for seventeen years.  Their two sons, David, 14, and Jake, 9, attend Prairie Star Middle School and Prairie Star Elementary and enjoy playing football, basketball, participating in Scouts, and volunteering in their community.
