THE  ISSUES

Responsible   recovery

The COVID-19 Pandemic has made us rethink how we run our businesses, work, attend school, and socialize.  It is crucial that we have a representative who respects science and will listen to the guidance of our community health professionals.  Keeping our local community safe can be done while keeping our economic engines running and should not be politicized.  Sally will ensure our focus remains on funding education, critical safety-net programs, and job-creating infrastructure investment in Kansas while our revenue stream recovers.

SCHOOLS

A strong supporter of public education, Sally will work to ensure our schools are fully funded while she is in the Legislature. Sally understands that this funding is needed beyond simply “the classroom” - special education resources, librarians, nurses, information technology, paraprofessionals, foreign language and the arts, utilities, and safety modifications are just some of the areas within the school system that require investment. In addition, she opposes all efforts to remove Kansas Supreme Court oversight of our state's constitutional obligation to fund K-12 public education.

Reducing the cost of in-state higher education in Kansas is a priority for Sally. Due to the Brownback-era tax experiment, tuition at our state universities has increased at an enormous rate and is pricing students out of college. Restoring higher education funding to provide relief for Kansas families makes good financial sense as we develop and train the workforce of tomorrow.

EQUALITY

As your representative, Sally will work to create a welcoming, inclusive, and safe community for all.  She will support legislation to address systemic racial inequities in the justice system, housing, healthcare and other areas. Sally is willing to have the tough conversations and do the work required to bring about real change. She also supports a statewide nondiscrimination clause to protect our LGBTQ+ community.

Gun   Safety

Sally supports the 2nd Amendment and believes Kansans have the right to purchase firearms to protect their families and hunt. She understands that common sense safeguards are needed to keep our community safe – like requiring background checks on all gun sales, banning bump stocks, and keeping guns out of public hospitals, mental health centers and college campuses.

Sally stands firmly against “Teacher-Carry” – arming our public-school teachers – and supports the creation of “Red-Flag” laws to temporarily remove the ability to harm the public from those who have made credible threats.

ECONOMY

Entrepreneurs played a key role in building the foundation of the Kansas economy by developing innovations that improve our lives and create jobs. Supporting the creativity and perseverance of entrepreneurs through sound policy improves their chances of success and helps grow our state economy.  Recruiting and retaining talent in Kansas is important given the investment we have made in our students and the investments business make as they grow their organizations.  Incentives that encourage early stage investment reward and attract investors to new businesses in our state.  Sally will work toward improving state-level regulatory processes to lower the barriers to entry by modernizing online capabilities for reporting, incentivizing start-up loans, and enhancing business acceleration programs.

Ensuring critical Kansas services such as education, health & human services, public safety, and infrastructure are maintained and future generations aren’t burdened with debt are top priorities for Sally.  Prudent budgeting, forecasting, and attention to efficiency, coupled with sound economic policy that supports job creation, will allow Kansas to flourish and its economy to grow.

healthcare

Sally supports the expansion of KanCare in our state to provide affordable healthcare to approximately 150,000 Kansans and reduce the burden of uncompensated care on our health service providers.  This will create jobs in Kansas, improve health care outcomes and bring hundreds of millions of federal dollars paid by Kansas taxpayers back to the state each year.  She will also advocate for a robust mental healthcare system to ensure all Kansans have access to treatment in a coordinated and timely fashion.

FAMILY  AND   FAITH

Our district is a quiet, family-oriented community comprised of various cultures, family structures and faith backgrounds. Sally believes strongly in the rights of individual liberty, religious freedom and the separation of church and state. Sally is deeply committed to supporting people of all faith communities, but not at the exclusion of others.
